ENTERING AND COMPETING IN A SPEEDMOG EVENT
SpeedMog events take place at meetings organised by motor car clubs. At an event there may be over a hundred other cars entered for their own championships. On a good turnout there will be some ten Morgan drivers competing, some double driving, which has become more popular over recent years with husband and wife, fathers and daughters or sons taking it in turns to compete in the same car.
If you wish to take part in SpeedMog you will need to register with Clive Glass who is the Championship registrar, registration@speedmog.co.uk. Once registered you will receive your SpeedMog membership and a calendar for the year with details of each event from Championship Organiser, Simon Baines. This will include details of the organising club, when and how to enter and costs. Most entries are now done on-line.
Once your entry has been confirmed by the organising club, you will receive details of the event, usually a week or two beforehand. This includes arrangements for the day, your race number and how to sign on, now usually also online.
Most events take place on a Sunday and start early! At your allocated space in the paddock your car and personal safety kit will be inspected by a scrutineer. Before the first practice run there is usually time to walk the course with fellow Morgan drivers when the more experienced competitors are happy to share their experience and advice. There are usually two practice runs and then the business end of the day starts with the first of two timed runs.
Hopefully, as the day progresses, times come down and in between runs there is time to discuss with fellow drivers how it went and where things could be improved.
The actual times for each driver’s run are recorded and positions calculated by the weight and power algorithm. At the end of the day the winner and runners up are announced and they generally walkaway with well deserved trophies.
